I am installing a set of fog lights on my friends 99 explorer. I have had difficulty locating a place where i can either drill a hole or use an existing hole to transport some wires from the engine compartment to the interior of my car for a switch. any help would be appreciated.

thanx,
rob

I am not to sure how similar your 99 is to my 92 but there are two great places tha I found. The first is on the pass. side in the corner by the kick panel at the end of the floor mat. There is a little rubber cone that wires are already running through...just shove along side them. The other spot is on the driver side by the brake lever. There is some empty space on both sides so you can drill away.

I have had good luck following the hood release cable and using a coat hanger to pull the wires through the firewall.
Lots of room there....

i wired my hella wires through, let me check tomorrow where i ran them and ill let you know

My 91 had a 1" square rubber grommet(sp?) just to the left of the gas pedal looking at it from under the hood. I cut an x in it and I run about 8 wires through it. Check to see if your model has that grommet(sp?) in it.

not sure if your still looking for a place to run the wire through the firewall... Best advice someone else mentioned was wait until its dark, put a really bright light in the engine compartment, get into the cab and look for any light shining through. If your vehicle is like mine, you'll use all the factory grommets, then add some more grommets by drilling and putting a grommet in, and then you'll have to add some more :). My vehicle is probably HIGHLY unsafe... lets see... running through my firewall I have:
one four-gauge wire which goes to a fuse block which power the lights on my roof and in my rear bumper
One four-gauge wire which goes to my amplifier
One 8-guage wire that goes to my subwoofer (powered seperately from the amplifier, its pre-amped)
I think about 9 wires for the ARB locker
And if I had my way, wiring for the warn winch, but can't find an appropriate switch for it.

If you really don't want to mess with the firewall you could run a wire under the body and up through a drainhole on the bottom. I've got my wires running like that and had very little problems so far. You would want to wrap something around them though to keep out the mud and everything else.

I got a 91 and what I did was, first take off all the trim on the drivers side (on the bottom) and the same to the passengers, then i pulled out the kick panels, and then pulled the carpet and tucked it on the side of the seat so it'd be out of my way, popped the hood, looked for open places in the firewall through the hole, then just looked for places where I could drill through, it's pretty easy I thought, just make sure they are places where you can drill through without a chance of hitting any part of the engine.....I drilled several different size holes on the drivers and passengers side so I can add stuff as I get it.....oh well goodluck!
