I'm getting my second trans rebuild. The transmission shop recomended a shift kit. Is this a good idea? I think the trans should shift firmer, but don't want to do anything to lessen reliability.

If anything a good internal shift kit will make the tranny more reliable. Definately a good idea. Good luck!

That's what I was looking for :) I'll find out exactly what shift kit it is. They offered the shift kit and a cooler as the only upgrades I could get. :( They wanted 125 for each. I can do WAY better on the cooler, but figured for 125 and not having to drop the pan myself it was worth it. I wish there was something else they offered.

125 for the shift kit and labor? If so it's a good deal. If it's just 125 for labor that's too much. Both of my rebuilds threw the labor in for free since they were already doing everything else.

125 for the kit installed. I was looking at getting a cooler when the trans went bad. I can get a nice one at a local shop, and a trans temp gauge for under 125, so I'll do that myself.
