Im pretty sure Im gonna come... my ex has been acting up, had to replace my battery cables and refill my power steering fluid yesterday.. woo hoo... If possible, I will probably drive out friday night late and then park it and ride alone if I can. This is all contingent on nothing coming up at work when I get to Dallas (in 3 days!)

Ok as most of you know, I'm a pretty die-hard Ford kinda guy, with a few exceptions.
That doesn't mean that Ford doesn't come up with some really dumbass-riffic-stupendiously-geniusomatic, stupid **** for brains ideas.

So my story begins:

Well as we all know, the last time I went wheeling I lost the oil pump in my 224k mile motor, eh not so bad, I can deal with that, so Saturday I went to work and put a new motor in the Nasty Hoe.

While in the process of removing the transmission cooling line from the radiator, a Pepto Bizmo pink colored fluid came out!
But if you recall I so called "Water Proofed" my truck, so I thought.

While at the last run some of you all might recall, due to a slight navigational error, I wound up in some water approximatly 3 1/2' or so deep (up over my lap while sitting in the driver's seat), and was dubbed the new Submarine Captain!

Well after going ahead and pulling the transmission and transfer case, my 30k mile "Ford" rebuilt transmission was completly full of water and transmission fluid, I don't even know how we kept on wheeling for another 5-6 hours after that.

So after further inspection, with the transmission out, I noticed 2 little rectangular holes in my vent tube up at the top of the bellhousing, I'm not sure what Ford was thinking but this turned out to be a disaster for me!

So after being pretty, well, miffed about that I went out back at work and snatched up a 5 speed and shoved it in there insted, so now I need to go buy a clutch and pressure plate, and swap out pedals, put the transfer case back on and put in the drive shafts, and we'll be back on the road, it just was a little more than my pocket book was ready to deal with this weekend.

So all you clowns with automatics that like to play in the water like I do, pull that factory vent tube off and replace it quickly, or you might wind up with pansyass pink fluid funfilling your day too!
But oh well that's the price you pay to play!

That sucks, well here is the question so does this mean you are out for Gilmer SVO or do you think you'll have it together by then.

I'm doing the best I can, I have 2 weeks till then so, I'm gonna work my tail off to put it all together by then and make it happen so don't count me out just quite yet.

Hey Bryan I grew up in Friendswood, boy a lot has changed over the years there.

Go Mustangs! lol

alright! Hail Friendswood High School... lol... Did you know Dr. Kennedy was the principal now? I Was c/o 2001. Man, Im sure you know who Bob Camp (History) is? Wow, weirdness... your comin up on the ole 20 yr homecomin... soon and very soon...

Ok Bryan this is gonna date me a little but that's ok after looking at your age in your profile.

That's funny to hear that Dr. Kennedy is still there and Coach Camp stories still float around, but lets rewind a little more.

I can remember when Gulf Gate Mall (which just got demoed a lil while back) was the only mall around before Alameda Mall was built, but that when I was a little oon my dad and I rode bikes down what is now Bat Area Blvd. when it was a 2 lane dirt road which ended at I-45 which was a 4 lane divided hwy.

And Red Top and Dairy Queen were the only burger joints around cause being a quaker community they wouldn't let in Burger King and the such.

Across the street from Hollywood car was was Camp Manision which is where we would have our reunions and class graduation parties.

Sunset used to be a 2 lane asphault road with a speed limit of 45mph and in the flood of 1979 it wiped out the Castle Wood and Sunset bridges and stranded us in our flooded houses for a week.

I can remember that we were the first people EVER to start class in the newly built C.W. Cline primary school, and that the first video arcade was next the the laundry mat in the Stone's Throw shopping center and across Friendswood Dr. was a Perry's 5 & Dime store.

Some teacher's name and Principal's name to throw around were:

Benny Nipper Theater arts
Jan Nimitz Art
Mr. Beakin Math
Wyllie Murrell Prtincipal
Wilson Elliot Asst. Principal
Curtis Wilson Principal
Louis Mc Clure CVAE
Coach Scott
Mrs. Hall
Mrs. Rue
Mr. Stiene
Cliff Mabry

Man the stories and things I could tell you, like tapping into the school P.A. System in high school from the drama room which used to be the bang hall before the building out back was built and riding my go cart back behind that when it was nothing but oil fields, before there were even any thought of houses being built back there, going up with Wendy Bushanni who's dad owns Texas Yamaha South there on 518 (aka Nasa 1).
Blowing up the lightning system in the Jr High over by the round building.

Sun Medow was the only upper class living area around.
I lived over there on 508 Misty Lane in Imperial Estates, over there close to the high school.

hahahhahaha the memories, and the 20 year reunion, damn that make me feel old now lol!

Ok back to your regualy schedualed thread about wheeling!
:D

allright. i am almost ready. plastic rocker panels and step rail are all off..wow..talk about ground clearence. the bottom of the body is on top of my knee when i stand by it. hehehe. now, need to fab up the slider and the skid plate for the fri=ont. detroit locker is in the mail. woohoo.. i finally might get a chance to see what my street queen can do...lol.

one question. since i am 2wd, would disconnecting the front sway bar affect my offroadability or the rear disconnect would be sufficient? comments?

I am going to try to make it if i can get someone to cover my shift at work. I'll be going up there with Jeff (SVO) aka Submarine Captain ;) from Waco so it should be a good time. I already started ordering stuff too hahaa. Will my Z71 be able to go through the stuff there? I am trying my hardest to get my new tires on before the trip, some 305 70/16 BFG AT KO's, but we'll see

anyway, hope to make it out

You should be fine on some of the larger trails. Just stay of the twisty turning ones. Unless you dont care about trail pinstripping :)

Weather 4wd or 2wd, removing them will always help the suspension move more freely!

I'd be interested to see the Z71. The longer wheel base would make some of the ledges easier. What I'd like to see is how it handles the frame twisters, like Clydes Ravine and Whatever. I think the whoopty-doos on Whatever are shorter than the wheel base on a full-sized Pick-up, so it my high center. Hmmm.

Swak. Chucking the front sway bar will allow your front wheels to stay on the ground a bit more, which is nice if you like steering :D but since you've got no drive up there, it won't do a whole lot for you on the trail. You WILL notice the change in handling, though. The truck will get pretty wishy-washy at high speeds. I've had mine off since August, but I don't spend much time on the highway.
