Going to tint the windows. Should I wrap the top in black as well?

Welcome. You can tint the sunroof to reduce the heat and light with the cover open. I've done my entire windshield on one car, that helped with heat and at night some glare from oncoming drivers. The lightest is about 10% or less, and not visible unless someone is looking specifically for that.

@mblakel21 What if you just wrapped the C-pillar, for a "floating" roof like Range Rover tends to like? Might turn some heads, if that's all you're trying to do. If you don't have a limited budget and you like the look, go for the black. It would also protect the paint from rain, sun, and avian deposits!

I really like the idea of the floating roof. My biggest worry was the C-pillar. I am afraid of the line being off and messing up the look. I have never have a car altered so I am not educated on the process. Thoughts?@mblakel21 What if you just wrapped the C-pillar, for a "floating" roof like Range Rover tends to like? @mblakel21 Fortunately for you, your generation of Explorer has a nice little ridge where the C-pillar meets the body side. I'd use that little ridge as your guide, and it should line up with both windows perfectly. For the top, you can see a little line separating the roof panel from the pillar; I'd use that as your reference point on the top. It shouldn't be very difficult or expensive to cover just that pillar, if you have a professional measure and install.

@mblakel21 You could also do a little photo editing to show the pro exactly what you want, and/or buy some poster board and Plasti-Dip (more throw-and-go than spray paint), cut out the exact shape to cover the pillar exactly how you want it, and then mock it up (AFTER it dries!) and show a pic of it to the pro, "this is exactly how I want it to look" thing. I've done this with other things, and never been disappointed. The more exactly you present the idea to them, the less they get to make up as they go along.

Wrapping the roof in black will really draw the heat into the cabin. I have seen it done and I believe there is a picture somewhere in this forum.

I wouldn't do it mine. But it's nice that people like doing different things. It would be pretty boring if every vehicle looked the same.im not a big fan of the roof wrap looks like something honda or nissan does.
