I'm planning on getting rid of the original radio and speakers. But i don't know much about where 2 start after i do this. any suggestions, on where y'all started with your truck systems, i've been looking at the 6x8 sony explods, but i don't know what CD player would be best along with this. any advice would be great.

I started w/ Pioneer head unit/ cass., added a cd changer(also Pioneer), Rockford speakers and amp. Sounds great. No regrets. Check with Crutchfield. They have a web site and are more than willing to help.Total cost of my system, about $1000.And welcome to the site. You will find that there is a little of everything, and every kind of Stereo and opinion on the site. You are only limited by the depth of your pocket..

cructhfeild is too high, sony Xplod is not what I call a "quality" speaker :P sorry man, but I don't like those companies. If I were you, I'd get either a pioneer, eclipse or a nakamichi headunit, and I'd get pioneer, MBQ or IDQ components, if you don't wanna run an amp just yet, some 2 way coaxs would work just fine, but you will get higher sound quality out of round speakers rather than those ovals. check out www.thezeb.com for some MUCH better prices than cructhfeild and some of the friendliest service I've worked with

system

I agree with DarkFox, I don't like most of the car audio stuff that sony makes, the Xplode series is definatly jsut a bunch of hype for nothing, Even though it is relativle cheap you can do MUCh better than that stuff, especially the HU, i have almost all Blau in my explorer, also a 91, and i love it, I put 4 blau t-line speakers in my doors for about 250, so that wasnt to expensive, and i love the sound, and quality. My 2 Cents

I started with Infinity Reference 5x7's for the doors, a Kenwood 35x4 amp, and a Pioneer DEH-P4000 head unit. Since then I have expanded with 1 10"sub and 2 Boston Acoustics 6x9's. Now I have my hands on another sub and am now looking for a second amp. Thinking on an RF 150x1.

hehehe, how about an MTX blue thunder 1502? it does 150x2 or 425x1 @ 4 ohms $190? if you wanted to get a better box for it.. I also have a polk DX12 4 ohm SVC sub you could power with that amp, it sounds really good but the box is too small for it $175 :) I haven't announced the polk on the classified on here just yet.. so this would be first offer on this forum

If you are looking for some subs and the perfect amp to push them I am selling 2 10" Rockford Fosgate woofers in a dual sealed enclosure. The amp also Rockford Fosgate. It puts out around 140 watts x1 @4ohms mono but I ran it a 2 ohms with no problems for months. I am only asking $225 for both the amp and the subs.

When I first started upgrading my audio system in the Explorer I got a Pioneer headunit. Then I bought 4 Pioneer 6x8's. I had 3ways up front and 2 ways in the rear. I then got rid of the 3 ways and put infinity componets upfront. The 5.25" woofer is in the door and the tweeter is mounted semi-flush in the A-pillar. It sounds great off the Pioneer headunit, but I'm sure it's gonna sound awesome once I get my Clarion amp hooked up.

Hey dont knock the Xplod

i got a sony xplod cdx-7000 for $215 out the door. do not knock it. whats up with that. it is a very good quality unit. it has 50 watts by 4 and is cd with 18 fm presets and 12 am. it also has cd and a wireless remote. i like it very much. it was relatively cheap and sounds pretty good. it also has like 3 sets of preamps. Yes ECLIPSE kicks a$$ but the price sure kicked my butt a couple of times and the sony didnt kick me at all

eclipse SKIPS a$$ ;) hehe, I love my eclipse, but I swear I'm getting tired of it.. when I've had enough I may go with clarion.. their high end models are very nice

I love my clarion, 3 preamp outs, sub woofer controls, Z-enhancer (sorta like Pioneer's super tuner) Great sounding deck, i had an eclipse before this, and i loved it, but the clarion hasnt let me down yet.

thanx 4 the advice but i think i'm still gonna try out sony, also, did any of u have trouble fitting 6x9, i thought it was6x8

man ... you people want WAY too much for your used audio equiptment, i can get a lot of that stuff new for less then you guys want ... :)

91'explorer 2wd: If i were you, i'd listen to the opinions of the people here. Sony speakers are horrible. you can do so much better, maybe even for cheaper.

anyways, i dont know all that much about component speakers, but i have not heard a single compliment for the sony's

however, remember, its all opinon. crap to someone might sound great to someone else. Try them out, compare them, and dont jump to any conclusions

good luck,
Jeff aka Lamah
(I just contradicted myself at least like 3 times there didnt ? =/)

well you can always get new stuff for cheaper.. like pyramid 15s over eclipse 12s.. the only difference is VALUE :) its like a car.. you can get a used car in good shape, or you can buy a new honda with no options.. they'll both get you from place to place, but the used car is a better deal because of the quality, even if you pay more for it being used

no, i'm talking about the exact same products that you guys are selling for cheaper new, not like some crap jvc subs or somthing

what exaclty are you talking about? my JLs? I think I'm missing something :P

i was mainly refering to the fosgates for sale ....

My suggestion is that you start out with the headunit..get a nice decent one (pioneer, alpine, or kenwood excelon) and then move to the door speakers, i wouldn't suggest the exploid's. I recommend Eclipse, mbquart, or boston for your door speakers. 5X7's=6X8's

My explorer as of now has Eclipse 89740 point source 5X7's in the front (loud and very clear), stock 5X7's in back doors for now, 2 JL-w0's in powerwedge or pro box..forgot..custom carpeted panels to match the tan interior with a phoenix gold xs-2500 amp going to the subs. Headunit is the Premier Pioneer deh-p720 which is nice but now i regret not paying the extra $40 bucks for the 9200 for the motorized face.

Should I swap out my factory HU for a Pioneer 7200? Lamah, how much can you get one for?
