I have the RTS's currently, knowing how to drive and knowing the limits/capabilities of you tires definitely helps. My wranglers driveable in the snow, I mean I get by, but that's it, I JUST GET BY!!!

That's all changing on Friday, 31" Pirelli Scorpian A/T's coming my way!

I agree. That's one of the reasons I went out and got almost stuck twice this past storm, just so I know what I can do and what I can't do...

I have to go against the grain here and vote for the Toyo AT Open Counties. Another 20" pounding with snow Monday and they came through great!!! BFG's are "old school" hard core offroad only tires. There noisy, heavy (gas eaters) tires that are very bad in the rain on daily driven trucks.

You know... I was told the same thing about the Toyo's vs. the BFG's... The toyo's have a 500 B wear rating and are supposed to ride smoother and wear better/longer than the BFG's.

yeah the bfg at are good for ice we had some bad ice a month ago it was fun driving in it :)

Any comments from the Michelin guys? I think these are a more practical choice for most of us general road drivers. I am stuck with the RT/S's on mine for another year or two until they wear out, but after that I am not sure what I should get. Cross terrain, MT, and AT all look good.

Jason

the all terrain ppl must like them if they know how to drive in the conditions and the ppl that don't like them must suck at driving in any other condition other than dry.

Stereotyping people is NEVER the answer my friend.

In my opinion... I'm going to have to go with the BFG AT K/Os as well. And it really irritates me when people are so.. anti 'jumping on the BFG bandwagon.' Especially when they've never ridden them. It's not about whats cool or not. These tires do perform awesome. I've had the ATs when I was 2WD and the MTs when I was both 2WD and 4WD and I can honestly say these are great tires in all conditions. My buddy is polishing off what is left of my ATs on his Ranger, and even now (being nearly three years old with mucho miles on them) they out perform his old Michelins.

Gooyears definately SUCK! I have had my BFG AT KO's for a year and have had no problems at all. No offense but I am not going to put a Japanese tire on my truck.

Yea, but they are French!!

But I guess a FRENCH tire is much better!

French? Which tire is French? B/C I'm gonna avoid those like the plague! Frenchies and anything automotive just do not mix.. Ever talked to someone who owned a Renault or a Puegot?

Of course dad has a 3 Trimuph Bonnevilles and a TR4A... British.. there's a entirely different breed of beast and problems!

BFG's - they are owned by MNA Inc which is Michelin North America , parent is:

Personally I had bad luck with the BFGs years ago and will not buy another, and the reports I have about the KO/ KM are not much better. Take a spare (or 2 ) with you if you hit the trails. They have nice flexible sidewalls which love sharp rocks and branches. Good thing is BFG charges enough to give out replacements all the time- one of the reasons people buy them.

Good Luck

Steve, I don't know what reports you're talking about, but after running mine offroad here in the Northeast rockpiles for a couple of years now, I have not had any blowouts, cut sidewalls, etc. The ko's (What I run) have 3 ply sidewalls for puncture resistance and take the abuse very well.

I wouldn't compare these to the older BFG's because the ko/km series is has a different design than the older tires.

Jeff,

Trip reports from club members here in DC- about 100 members or so. Running places like Paragon, Gore, Tellico, even GWNF. Sidewall blowouts or cuts seem to be a frequent occurance with the BFGs . The reports just reinforced my personal experience that the sidewalls are very flexible (good for some things) and rolled over onto the rocks making them vulnerable to damage. I havent heard anything about the new KO/KM models to change that view. The big plus for the BFGs is that they replace them with no questions usually. The members of the club generally consider them a street tire, and good trail tires are TSLs (bias and radial) , Boggers, and SX's and lately good reports about the MTR from Goodyear- none of which have a replacement policy, but none of them seem to need it.
I had a few of the older AT and MT that had sidewall problems- I cut at least 5 on three sets of tires( not all new)- so I gave up on them . I was on a ride once when someone had 2 cut sidewalls - same vehicle. Im not saying they are all around bad tires- and at one point I was even thinking of trying the new 33-10.50KMs, but the sidewalls are a known weak area- no matter how many plys they have on them. For a street/mild trail tire they are fine no doubt(although I did loose a sidewall to a storm drain on one of my work trucks) and the flexible sidewall gives them a decent ride , but anyone taking them on the trail should recognize the sidewall problems, and drive accordingly. It seems that here on the east coast we have more branches, and sharp rocks on the trails that like those BFG sidewalls.

I ran my 31 BFG ATs on at least 3 hardcore runs, including Moab and Arizona 2002. No problems at all with them. Had about 18000 miles when I sold them and they looked very good. They were a little chunked and stretched from the rocks and the drag strip. But they held up to anything I threw at them.

When I ran Moab 2001 with my GY RTS I had a flat from the sidewall.

I've taken my Bridgestone Dueler AT's 115mph a few times on the highway. LOL. I'ts like a 96mph rated tire...oops.

I run Yokohama Geolandar ATs and they work good for me, excellent road manners and good grip in the ice and snow. And they were cheaper than BFGs.

I keep wondering about the Yoko's... Reviews are either loved em or hated em. People here have said Yoko's wear wierd and crap out early, but the reviews on tirerack.com and 1010tires.com are nothing but positive. I think i might end up with the Yoko's or the Toyo's when my RT/S wear out (which can't come soon enough!). Or maybe the Uniroyal Laredo AWT's b/c the look cool and have decent reviews...
