99 Mercury Mountaineer
I just put some 20’s on my 99 mercury mountaineer with a 275-45-20 tire. Now I looking a dropping it a few inches. How low can I go with out any problems? The backend is already an inch lower than the front. What’s the right combination of rear lowering blocks and torsion adjustment? I’m aware of the torsion flip method, but I need to know if the safe, and how much the ride quality will be affected. Also how much should I aspect to pay for an alignment?

Its safe.
the more you lower the more the ride suffers. duh! :)
paid about $200 for mine with camber kit installed.

I spent 130 and they put a kit on, only shop around that had a kit laying around. Just remember, your camber will never be the same if you lower it. The shop said .5 would be the closest they would be able to get and they still didn't manage to get it that good.

I had my bolts removed, and had 2" blocks in the back... my truck sat even.

(cut bumpstops in half)

I think my alignment with camber kit was about $120.

btw... if you're interested in rear shocks for a lowered explorer. I have a pair of edelbrocks i'll sell. Had um on mine when it was lowered.

I wanna retract my previous statement, don't expect a good alignment even with a kit, atleast if you do the flip.. hahaha, i've spent close to 300 bucks on alignments in the past 2 weeks and I still pull to the left and the camber is bad on the front driver wheel.. hehe

I have lowered mine 3.5" in the front with a 3" block on the back with 20s and used the camber kit. It doesn't pull in a certain direction all the time it just goes where ever the road isn't perfect, so pretty much every where.

wolfsport.

i have the flip, and had 3.2 of negative camber on both sides going into the alignment. $80 later, camber kit (3 degree kit) and the labor, my camber is at .2-.3 on both sides, hardly anything to cry about. point being, it's possible.

I bet the one Wolfsport's got is no 3 degree kit. Where did you get that kit, Draft? Been looking everywhere. The closest I could find was a -+ 2 1/4 degree kit from Ingalls Engineering.
