CEL came on the other day after i refueld. stopped and checked it with the code reader and it is P1451. the book donest have a listing for it. from the fierst page i gather that it is a ford specific emissions code. i havent noticed a difference in the way its been running or anything. any ideas? thanks guys!!!

P1451 EVAP Control System Canister Vent Solenoid Circuit Malfunction

hey, thanks for the fast reply. i never understand the deffinitions the book uses lol. so its a selenoid that bad?

IIRC, the canister vent solenoid is located on the carbon canister above the spare tire. I think that others have had this problem when the vent solenoid gets rusty. If it isn't the solenoid, then it is probably a wiring issue.

did you refuel while the vehicle was running

under the spare tire.... lol. had monroe muffler put some rear shocks on it a month ago. had a shock blow on me. and i had to mae a 3 hours trip later that day so needless to say i had to go there so it was fixed asap. my hatch lock is messed up and you cant open the hatch.....so u cant drop the spare. i told the guy at the shop to just cut the spare off of the wire thing lol. rim was junk and tire was flat anyway.... maybe his torch has something to do with it LOL...
if i turn the CEL off, it sometimes stays off for a while....

engine is always off when refueling.

thanks for the info!!!

Maybe he melted the insulation on the wiring. On some of the OBD2 tests (like the evap test) the test has to fail a couple of times before it sets the CEL. That is probably why it stays off for a while.
