Got hit on the highway

On my way home from work, getting ready to merge from the on ramp and from the corner of my eye I see this huge bird. I'm hoping it changes direction or it's going to end up in or breaking my windshield. It must've realized that as well and suddenly changes direction and drops a fish that bounced off my truck
There is a large pond right next to the on ramp. Not sure what kind of bird it was, it was big and white - crane or heron maybe? It must have just caught dinner and decided to take off across the highway for whatever reason.
