Got my PCM updated today!

I just went in and told the service writer that I want to make sure that the most current version of the software was in my PCM.

They wouldn't do it for me. 90 bucks later they said my PCM was faulty.

When I am coasting to a stop under light braking I can feel it go down the gears and really thump into 1st,

That sounds like another problem they have been trying to fix on newer exes. I would have that fixed before it eats your transmission...

I've been called a lot worse!

04 Mountaineer Premiere, V8 AWD.
It fixed my 'sloppy' up shifting, but now I can really feel it downshift. I wonder if I need to give it some more time to adjust to my driving habbits. Or I wonder if the update made another issue I have more noticiable? When I am coasting to a stop under light braking I can feel it go down the gears and really thump into 1st, the RPM's even jump when it downshifts.

Delaer was more than happy to check for an update when I asked them, cost me $94.00.

The re-flash must program the PCM back to default settings, as I too noticed a firmer shift when I first got it done. Now that I've put some miles on it, it's learned a little more softness to its shift quality, but it's still better than it was.

I like the mpg numbers you are stating.
I get 15 on regular unleaded no matter what I do no matter how fast or how slow I drive.
I also have the same shifting problems you mentioned. Would like to smooth them up a little.
I have a 2003 I guess I will give the Ford dealership a Ring to see how much to get the PCM updated.

I had my PCM updated a few months back... and now my superchips programmer wont work!

Yup, if your programmer is "installed" when they do a re-flash, the programmer can't unlock itself because it can't remove the flash it installed. Superchips may be able to reset it for you. But you'll pay for it.

Yeah, my stealership says the same thing. They "won't" be responsible for any issues arising from unnecessary flashing of the eprom.
