does anyone know how to keep a cv joint alive? would limiting straps help? does anyone else with lockers have trouble with them? i just blew one out with no load on it going down hill, the only thing was my tire was at full droop and the wheel was cut.

Throwing a locker into a "weaker" IFS axle is your issue. Our IFS are suppose to be for smooth ride and give us "torque-on-demand" when needed. Noticed it's called "Indepent" Front Suspension. Everything is suppose to act seperately, and your locking them together; which adds torque and load on the axles. You need to talk to an offroad drivetrain shop of some kind and come up with an idea for CVs or talk about a SAS

limiting straps WILL help however. The CVs shouldnt just blow up when in the optimal operating range. They will be subject to damage however with a locker in the front, but they shouldnt just grenade all the time. I would get some limiting straps and run it like that for a while. Dont know how you drive on the street, but maybe ease up a bit? ;) Lockers and streets dont like each other.

That is when the joint is at ist weakest!

Its possible you had damaged it already and that was the last straw. I have seen CV's take some serious beatings, but just like u-joints they can only take it for so long before they start to fatigue. Once that happens its only a matter of time before the slightest thing causes them to blow.
