Grinding noise from left front when 4hi is engaged.

There is a loud grinding rotational noise from the left front when 4 HI is engaged or when in 4 Auto and wheel slippage occurs and engages. Its a 04 4.o

There is no noise in 4 auto on dry pavement.

Do you think its possible that the wheel bearing would only make noise when 4 HI is engaged? The bearings are quite when in 4 auto. There is a small amount of play in the left front bearing thats why I ask.

I think I'd take it somewhere and have it diagnosed.

Wheel bearing would be the cheapest place to start if you are guessing and throwing parts at it. Could also be a CV joint gone bad or, at worst, something in the front differential.

Tough to say without more info.
