I have an intermittent issue where when I brake hard I get a metal on metall grinding and vibration coming from the front end.

Brake pads and rotors were just replaced, so it's not that.

Could it be a bad hub/bearing?? It's not a CV Joint because it doesn't pop like a bad CV Joint would.

Trying to get this thing ready for the winter, and I cant move on to fixing the AWD system till I can get this sorted out.

A stupid question first -- did you check to make sure none of the brake pads are on backwards? Had that happen one time and scored the heck out of a new rotor!

i seen brakes installed lacking a pad .......

Its a good possibility that it is a hub bearing. When they go bad they will make noise when different pressures are applied to it. Sometimes it will be when cornering, other times acceleration, others braking, coasting or just plain old going down the road. Just depends on how it is grinding itself up internally.

First thing is to double check those brakes. Then:
Jack the truck up enough to raise the wheel that is making the noise off the ground. Grab the tire and try to move it up and down and side-to-side. There should not be any movement, if there is you found your issue.

I think you answered yourself. It's hard to acknowledge you might have just thrown away some money, but denial quickly becomes more expensive. Since this work was completed just prior to your symptoms appearing it actually makes it the most likely cause for your problems.

abs event?
