I have a serious question about the sound/grinding that takes place right as i start to accelerate aftr i put the car in gear. i only seams to do this right aftr i start the car and after i accelerate a little bit it seems to stop. I just got the high air intake replaced and i dont think it has anything t do with this but i do need to knowwhat yall thik it might be.

I would justlilke to say hat i havecometo rely on thissigt more than anything else so any help would be greatly appreciated.

i was at the bank and the problem seemed to get worse so i really need some advice. i hope it is not the transmission but my friend steven said that it might be the transmission slipping. any thing else that i could actually check for would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Grinding noise huh? Probably not the tranny slipping. Can you get someone up near the truck when you take off to try to isolate the sound?

I AN SURE I CAN B/C IT ONLY DOES IT WHEN IT IS SLOWLY ACCELERATING. IF I STEP ON THE GAS IT SEEMS TO GO AWAY UNTIL I TURN THE CAR OFF, RESTART IT, AD PUT IT IN GEAR AGAIN. BASICALLY IF I PUT IT IN DRIVE OR REVERSE IT WILL DO IT FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN STOP I BET I COULD TRY TO ISOLATE THE SOUND. i WILL TRY TO DO THAT THEN GET BACK TO YALL, MEANWHILE IF TERE ARE ANY OTHER IDEAS THEN PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

Maybe the Alternator pulley is rubbing on the intake crossover coming from the airfilter box

Could be bad u-joints on the drivshaft too. That happend on my old truck. Made a grinding sound when I first started out in gear.

Gary how do i check the alternator pulley and what could couse that to happen ?

Jason what can i do to check the u-joints on the driveshaft. Would i be able to replace these myself or would i have to take it to the shop?

I am still learning this stuff but so far I have done a lot of work on it by my self. the hanes manuel is very helpful too

I can check back with ya'll in a little while

Check the clearance between the alternator pulley and the bottom of the air inlet tube. If it's less than a half inch or so then it's too close. When you accelerate the engine will raise up a bit due to the torque and possibly hit the tube.

i am checking that in a few minutes be right ack

Check the heat shields the exhaust. Mine was doing the same thing, and it was the shield on the cat. A piece of wire around it cured the problem.
