- 2017 Explorer XLT
I'm curious whether anyone has installed 9005 GTR Ultra LEDs in the high beams on a 5th generation Explorer -- especially if anyone has used the newer GTR Ultra 3.0 which should provide better fitment than the earlier Ultra 2.0
My Explorer is a 2017 XLT that has factory LEDs in every exterior light except the high beam headlights. Only the high beam headlights are halogen. The high beams are properly aimed (just a little above the low beams) and they do illuminate reflective road signs a bit farther than the low beams, but they are distinctly yellow compared to the LEDs and visibly not as bright illuminating the road and anything that isn't reflective.
I'm thinking about replacing the halogen bulbs with the GTE Ultra which are made to duplicate the pattern of the 9005. The ones I'm considering are 5500K so they should be a reasonably close match to the color of the factory LEDs.
