GWNF Fall Wheeling Trip

Let's make the dates be set for November 9-10. This way we have something we can plan for.
I second that. The trees will be at there "prettiest" mid-late october. By early november, they will be mostly brown and a bunch on the ground.

I PMed VAVBSloder and Jason_25 the other day and they agree NOV.9 should be the official date.

Namitey, GNWF is in north-western Va. If you scroll through the posts, someone posted a map, and then others described where it was on the map.

I am defintely in. I have a buddy that wants to bring his truck. We are both planning on camping out. I might also be able to get a couple more guys coming that will probably camp.

Sounds like we have a lot of enthuisiastic people for this trip! Now that I am back at school I will scout out a good place for all of us to meet (preferably a large parking lot with some food maybe) before we head out to go wheeling.

North western VA isnt to far from me. With any luck it would only take me 6-7 hours to get down there.

Now that we got a date down for this thing, what would the schedule be like? Like meet up on Sat, wheel a bit, camp Sat. night and wheel some more Sun. or what?

Willet, that's what we did last time except for the camping because it snowed a foot! But it worked out well like that, we had a good time.

Doug--sorry, hope you haven't gotten started yet, but don't worry about that roof rack, looks like i won't be needing it, sorry man!

Happy trails!!

Some Info

I was down this weekend, for a trail clean up run. Second Mtn is closed at the gates. FWIW.

Meeting places-

You can meet at McDormans Store- you need to call the owners and ask permission though, have an idea of the numbers, the lot is small, and serves as their driveway, so a couple of groups can fill it up.

Also there is a Shell station, Chevron station on either side of a shopping center on the west side of Harrisonburg right on 33. I dont know the name, but it can be used as a good meet point, and has plenty of pumps to gas up(mc dormans only has 2)

Steve,

Any chance you (or anyone else) could go to Tellico :D in November (9th - 10th)?

Rick

rick.. i may be. i can't go so far as to make this GWNF trip... but Tellico is pretty close to me. i couldn't take mine through there, but i'd love to ride passenger. i posted in the other thread too..

tellico

Rick,

Ill have to see about Tellico. You have something planned? I want to go, it will just depend on getting my kitchen done(way behind since my son broke both arms) , and a planned purchase and repair/ lease up of a new (to me ) property by Halloween. My life is getting in the way of my HOBBIES:D
Details on the trip- can you email them to me or are they posted somewhere ?

Steve,

This must be some kind of kitchen remodle. Heard about your son, how is he doing?

The Tellico trip is a CNC trip on the 1st weekend (not the 2nd as noted before) of November. So far there are about 15 to 17 vehicles going, including Gerald J. We are still looking at places to stay at this point. I know its a long trip for you, but it should be a lot of fun, plus you could see both of my bumpers.

Rick

I posted the event in the calendar.

Rick,
Alec is OK, he is still in casts. He was supposed to get them removed 2 weeks ago, but the doc decided to recast with a shorter cast since he still had some tenderness. He still cant go to the pool, but he is at a day camp this week. so getting some fun in, and he went on the cleanup run last weekend and had a great time(he won a few things in a raffle we had which helped- getting stuff is fun)

Yea my kitchen remodel is an addition/remodel of the kitchen. I have the shell built and finished to the exterior/ rough ins are almost done. Still placing electric- lights and such. Its on a concrete slab and Ive been cutting for ducts and water lines- takes me a while. I was hoping to pour the new floor area, and patch the cut outs before we leave for OBX on sat.- doesnt look good if my plumber doesnt get here tomorrow. Nov 1 is my new completion date, thats 6 weeks late. I was to be done before I bought a new rental property which is supposed to close end of september- waiting for a engineers report - may not happen at all, or I may postpone it (if I can). So Ive over extended myself. I had Alec placed in all kinds of camps this summer so I could get stuff done and that plan was OBE first week of summer- Oh well

I should make up time here in Sept when the kids get back to school, so should know better by Oct what my free time should look like for a trip to NC. I think its 6 hours for me Ill have to take a look again.

My wife and i are hoping too if we can find a camp ground with facilities. I can't wait!

Happy trails!!
There is a campground with nice facilities in Brandywine WV, about 15 min from McDormans, the "normal" meeting point. Costs $10-15 a night per lot.
