About how long will the drive be from VA Beach? is there somewhere to camp while this happens?

dgibson,
Where abouts do you live in VA Beach? I live out near the courthouse off North Landing. If I go maybe we can follow each other? Also, do you know of any places to just mess around a little around here? -------- Josh

I am in this time. I am gona tell work tomorrow that i need off for the 9th and then look around for a trailer for the X. I bought a new truck and the explorer is my project/off road truck so i can finally test everything out.

I would say a little over 3 hours, depending on where you're at at VA Beach. It's 2 hours from Richmond. And yes, there is a nice & clean campground at Brandywine, WV, about 15 min from McDormans gas station, the meeting point.

I am from the beach and H-burg is my second home, its about a 3.5 hour drive if you hold 70 mph the whole way. It goes by pretty quick once you hit Charlottesville. McDorman's does sound like a good place to meet since it is between Brandywine and Harrisonburg. Rawley Springs is the last town on 33 west in VA before you hit GWNF and is the perfect place to meet before running trails. Most trails can be found within 10-15 minutes of Rawley Springs.

I still haven't decided if I am going to camp or stay in the dorm that weekend. I have the weekend off from my RAing duties. I'll figure it out sometime though...

That IF is a big one though- I had the pleasure?? of driving 64 E and W a couple times this summer and I think that it is the worst road for traffic from Norfolk/Portsmouth to 295. My daily reference is 495/270 beltway around Washington so I know ****ty traffic and I couldnt believe the traffic on 64- they surely didnt widen the lanes out far enough and the merge from 4 to 2 in the span of what seemed like a 1/2 mile was too much. Question for you local guys- what is with pulling over on the left? On 64W my wife and I counted 3 people, or groups of people pulled over on the left!! Each time with a freaking backup for a mile or so. I thought "out of state beach going idiots" like myself - but alas my wife pointed out they were all from VA and seemed local. Ill take 460 next time little farther but much less stessful drive. Hopefully it was weekend beach traffic, Rick if you drive to W-burg each day. Man O Man.

Oh yea what was the topic?- GWNF Nov 9-10 - sorry

Heh, I was checking the Paragon thread at the same time.

SteveVB - VA has a ton of idiot drivers. Most people just don't realize that they can't pull off to the left or they were never tought that it isn't kosher. When I got my license a few years ago it was way to easy. I finished 2 days ahead of schedule b/c my parents tought me how to drive well before I reached behind the wheel. Also, I-64 W from Norfolk to the I295 interchange east of Richmond is a parking lot these days that moves at 70 mph. I hope they widen it to 3 lanes soon! It seems more and more people are clogging up that road with senseless traffic. I usually do make the trek from Virginia Beach to Harrisonburg in less than 4 hours, most of the time 3.5 horus like I said before.

Anyways, GWNF November 9-10! Hope ya'll can make it up!

Hi I just caught this thread tonight from the forum auto email newsletter deal. Just got back from OBX last week and have decided that my ex is worthy of trials more difficult than sand. If there's any more room for one more, I'm definitely in for NOV 9-10. I live in Norfolk, and would be interested in road tripping up there at the same time as others.

There is always room, the more the better. Glad to have you.

Happy trails!!

Yep, I-64 can be a kind of nerve-wrecking on weekends. Rt 460 can be an alternative as is Rt 17 when you are coming from the north. Just stay away from Rt 60. When I-64 is clogged, Rt 60 is even worse.

I just caught this thread in the Serious Explorations!! Community Bulletin and would love to go! I also have a buddy with a Sport that's interested as well.

WOW this run is getting large, I may have a couple guys with explorers from around here joing me as well!

The More the Merrier I guess :chug:

Man, Jason, we are going to double the last trips turn out! But heck, that's great.

Lets get a count on the people that think they will be camping and see how many are staying together. I'm coming with my wife probably, so we'll have our own site. If we can get some kind of a running number, maybe we can call ahead and get some reservations or something like that. Just a thought.

Happy trails!!

I'll probably be camping, I just hope the weather permits. I guess I don't really care about roughing it, but my girlfriend might. Anyway, there will be two of us, tack us on to the list. What kind of possibilities are there for camping anyway?

Ill probably be down for both days and ill probably camp whatever the weather is. If it gets so cold i cant stand it ill sleep in the truck. :D

Here comes the tri- state crew

Ya'll ready for us
