Yes....

But with the powerband of the 4.0 you would be better off going with a single 2 1/2 or 3" exhaust. This provides better low end over a dual setup. Honestly, a lot of people think duals give more power and "sound cool"- and they will over a stock setup. But the 4.0's need backpressure to run perform at low rpm where they make the most torque.

I have a cross over exhaust in my 65 Mustang Fastback. With a blower and 450 rwhp it makes a difference - at RPM's above 4500 (How often do you run your 4.0 over 5K? - I don't think I ever have) However in an explorer, your just wasting your money. Just my $.02

I'm really glad you said that, man! Everybody keeps busting on my single exhaust, asking me why I didn't get dualies! I think it looks better with just one on a Sport, anyway.

hehe "GT"
j/k
that does look good.

i have a 95 sport. ill get pics one of these days. but i have dual tips. but neither are connected anymore.
i know ima get crap for this but i like it dumping out of the muffler. so yes my tips are fake. they didnt used to be but they are now. but they look damn good.

Thanks for the help Brett, I talked to a mechanic at a performance shop yesterday. I told him what you said he said you were right.

Just because you have duals doesn't necessarily mean that you're gonna get more power or better sound.

I have a 2000 5.0 and I wanted true dual Borlas, but duals simply won't fit unless you:

1. Get rid of the spare tire

or

2. Run like 2inch pipes

So, instead I have a Flowmaster 3inch Y-pipe, a single Flowmaster 50 Series 3" in/out muffler, and a single 3" pipe with a 3.5" tip.

It has plenty of power, and sounds exactly how I wanted it to. It is a Limited, so I didn't get a 40 Series because I didn't want that all that droning and loud noise while crusing. The 50 Series is perfect, it sounds aggresive while accelerating, but its almost unnoticable while crusing at 70mph.

FYI:

Brett is always right.

:)

You must have the 16" spare because I had no problems running a 2 1/2" dual exhaust on mine.

I have a 16" spare. I had a muffler shop run 2 1/2" duals. They put the H-pipe in and ran the same path. Instead of going out the side they ran it staight out the back, side by side. If you want, after I get my it back from the body shop (Moab damage finally getting fixed), I can post pictures. :hammer:
