Okay, well, this is going to be an interesting thread... never posted pictures in a big amount, so forgive me if they look awkward...

This isn't my explorer, but mine looked JUST liked this before my wreck...

This is what happens when you hit a Honda Pilot going 45mph in a Tank (explorer)

Pretty bad huh? Well... instead of having a body shop do it, I decided to get everything I needed from a donor explorer and do the work myself.

Before, at the junkyard getting parts.

After, at the junkyard getting parts.

After after! Fixed and all! Originally the grill and headlight trim were chrome, but i hate chrome. So i painted them. When I first fixed it, i didn't have a bumper either, that was about 4 months ago, and the license plate i got for christmas... go hokies!!

Sorry the pictures are so big!!!

In case anyone was wondering, this is what is "newer" on my explorer a.k.a. what i got from the junkyard and put on mine.
Radiator Support
Headlights
Headlight Trim
Grill
Hood
Quarter panel on driver side
quarter panel on passenger side
and about 6 months after the work was done, i got another bumper.

Good work! Way to save the money and DIY! BTW- BrooklynBay will be all over that Aero at the junkyard... :D

haha, yeah, we have a Pull-a-Part here. it's amazing... you walk in, pick the car you need/are looking for, and it'll give a computer printout of the year/make/model, what row it's on, and what day it was brought in... they'll even cross-reference parts for you... if they dont' have a spindle for a 93 explorer, maybe another ford vehicle has one that'll fit. simply awesome.

it took us 6 hours to strip everything down off that explorer in the junkyard... mostly cause of the welds on the radiator support, we were usin ga drill with a dull bit, and bateries that maybe reached 10% charge each time... we walked out of the junkyard 10 minutes prior to closing.

job well done

There is a big future for you in collision repair.

haha, my mother would have a fit!! according to her, physical labor is "beneath our family"... screw that! my favorite memories are working on my explorer, looking like tom cruise in days of thunder, with the ring of grease and dirt on your face! nothing is as pleasant, as doing the work yourself, and succeeding at it.

Big props for that, Josh. Nice work!

HA

Wow.

I dont even know what to say about that.

how do you think she feels when i walk in smelling like gas, oil, and grease. lol.
"don't touch anything! don't touch anything!"

I do!! I think mom oughta get her butt outside and work on the vehicle and find out what it means to work!

BTW...no disrespect intended Josh, but it royally pisses me off when people say that some type of work is "beneath them"...that's a bunch of BS.

none taken. i completely agree.

Wow, you really had your hands full! I feel ya on the family feeling that fixing your baby is "beneath" you... I won't tell my family my plans for Blackjack, nor will I let them see him when he's completed, because I'll never hear the end of it. I catch enough crap from them now as is, since I work on Fords as a career :p: Props to you for sticking to your guns and making your Explorer whole again!!!

Good job Josh, good your sticking to doing what you want to do, vehicles are fun to work on :)

nice work well done!

very nice, but how did you straighten' the frame?

oh and BTW that black gen 1 in the very first pic is the cleanest 91-94 I have ever seen (stock that is)

yeah, it wasn't mine, just something i found through google images. i actually found a few pictures of my explorer when i first had it, so i'll see if i can post those up today.

as far as paint goes, i have a gallon of pearl silver sitting in my garage, i just need the clear...OR because i'm so close to getting another vehicle, i'm thinking of just sanding down the whole thing and just goign with gray primer... or if i can , i'd like to just sand it down, and spray a single stage white on it... just to get it one color.
