got a 97 sport..i dont know if all explorer are like this or just or that year but my truck rides like a tank...every bump i pot hole or bump i hit is just hard..inside all i hear everywhere is bang bang..

the suspension seems good when i do a bounce test but i think that the shocks are just to stiff for the explorer..i was driving a 92 chevy truck last month and that thing just glides over the bumps, dont feel a thing.

it seems like the suspension just isnt take the bumps good enough and im feeling all of it...but my rear springs are too weak, iv bottom them out lofs of time...my brother girlfriend almost cried,lol..the road had a little dip and the rear just hit hard and bounces you up high, i hit my head hard on the roof one time, and it was on a plubic highway.. people go way over the speed limit and i cant go over 90kph without loosing control somtimes..

and ideas, i know the shocks are probly gone bad in the rear but i can figual out the front

A short wheel base will ride rougher than a long wheel base. That is part of the reason the full size Chevy rode better.

Usualy when shocks are bad the vehicle will move up & down a few times after hitting a bump in the road due to the shock not absorbing the impact.

Ford also used several differnt rates of front torsion bars. You may have one of the stiffer torsion bars which would make the ride rough as well.

yup ^

My rents have a 4dr 96 and that thing rides like a car, even though it has the stock shocks/bushings etc

I've replaced my shocks bushings and so much, but to no avail. Mine rides like a tank but I like it :D

I think you are due for shocks..... that is where I would start.

My 99 was pretty bad - if I hit a pothole it rattled my teeth. Very rough over bumps. The rear end would hop around when I went over railroad tracks.

I put Monroe Sensatracs on it and it smoothed out a lot - rides like new! The rear end quit hopping when I went over tracks, and the bumps are a lot smoother.

Unless you do quite a bit of off roading, I would suggest staying with a street type shock that is made for a smooth ride.

I have a 98 4dr and ever since I got it I said it rode like a monster truck....

i'm with exploded99 on this topic, i replaced the stock shocks with the same monroe sensa-trac shocks and BANG what a difference. yet to try them out offroad but got a club run commin up that i get to play hehehe :) good luck

i put monroes on and now my truck rides worse then my blown air shocks did
