I recently had problems with hard starting in the mornings or after my truck had been sitting for a long while. My mechanic did a tune up and also found an issue with the fuel pump, which he replaced. Now things are going lotz better than before, but it still doesn't start just like i think that it should. I'd like to go back to my mechanic with at least a direction to point in. Any tips or suggestions would be very appreciated.

If it's the battery or alternator causing the problem you can usually get those checked out free of charge. Most autoparts stores will do that. Only takes a few minutes and then you could either elminate that as a problem or investigate further.

thanx for your reply. i did just recently replace the battery. i did not have the alternator checked, but the gauge on the dash seems to be reading alright. is this not a good practice - relying on the dashboard gauges? at the same time i replaced the battery, while it was all unplugged, i changed the air filter. you know all that computer resetting, mumbo-jumbo. do you guys think that i'll have to do that again when replacing the fuel pump? i wouldn't think so, but what do i know.

From what I have read, a good resetting can never hurt. A thread the other day mentioned resetting because the computer sometimes won't set perfectly when there is a change in whether (I don't know about where you are, but it is getting hot and humid here). I look at the computer in my truck just like my laptop, sometimes it just needs a reboot.

Good Luck!

Obviously it could be the starter. I had one go out in a late model Mustang. For 2 or 3 weeks prior to it quiting it just never started normaly.

Also you might try to run a bottle of fuel injector cleaner for a few tanks.

Since you mentioned problems with the fuel pump; it is possible it could be the fuel pump relay starting to go out.
