HAS ANYONE FIXED "SLOW SPEED ABS ACTIVATION FAULT"

Hi everyone, ok so I have a 97 4wd XLT and am very happy with it. It drives and runs faultlessly even though it has 190000kms on it. The only problem is the classic " ABS cutting in when almost at a stop, even on dry good pavement " problem. It only does it every now and then and apart from that, the brakes work perfect - not pulling to one side or vibrating etc. I have no warning lights of any description on the dash, and no ABS light even when it exhibits the slow road speed ABS activation problem. I have read all 74 pages of a search for ABS faults, but what I need to know is, has anyone who has had this problem actually fixed it properly?? If so what did you need to do? And i don't mean just removing the ABS fuse - LOL!

Have you cleaned the senors in the front wheels? This would be the first culprit, after that probably the abs module. The sensors are magnetic and pick up metal files and crud.

No solution, but I have your same problem. Happens once or twice every few months, but other than that works perfectly. Let me know if you get it fixed.

Hi guys, thanks for your replys, I am dropping the car off at the dealer I bought it from ( its under warranty luckily ) on monday ( feb 23rd ), he assured me whatever it needs it will get to fix the problem. Nothing like getting someone else to do all the leg work, and more importantly spend the money on the fault finding. Anyhow, it will be interesting to see if they can crack it. I will post details of the outcome asap!

I had this problem a few months ago, my mechanic told me this is a pretty commion problem on Explorer, but Ford never replaced or recalled them for the front ABS sensors. You have to replace the sensors to fix the problem.

Hi Jester, thanks for providing this info. It's good to hear that someone has actually had success in repairing the fault. My vehicle is going to the shop this week to have the work carried out. Hopefully it will be fixed, I will keep you posted.
