I have a 98' Sport. The lock for the hatch stoped working awhile back, from the outside using a key. Now it will not open at all. The handle pretty much moves back and forth. What could this be? Is it an easy fix? Can i just take the inside of the door of easily and figure it out? Also my belt is sqeeking, but it seems to be fine. could this be from dust or somthing? Thanks

The glass isn't opening, or the whole tailgate isn't opening? Or both? You need to be able to open the glass to get that rear plastic panel out.

the glass window will not open either.

my 97 has 2 vent panels on the inside of the hatch that are removeable. coudl you go through there and pop the rods to open the hatch? i also have trouble with the handle on my 93, which is why the interior panel is left off until i get off my butt and go to the junk yard to get a new handle assembly.

I can open the hatch now, but obviously i need to get in there and see whats wrong. I still cant get the glass to open. what could be wrong, and how can Ii get it fixed?

no i does not rattle at all.

i had a similar problem with the lock cylinder on my 98. the key would not do anything at all, but i was able to open it because the power lock would still work to open it. what my problem was, there is a small c-clip on the back of the lock cylinder that had came off, not allowing the button to release the latch for the glass. i had to take the lock out, find a clip, and put it back on. i can't say that will be your problem, but that's what happened to mine
