have you ever seen red smoke??

is the 95 X fittec with the A4LD, as I had this transmission on a Ford Granada and blew two in short succession, 10 - 15k , the drums in side are very weak, I had sintered metal drums fitted from the HP version of the car and has no further problems, including some track use.

Yeah... it's the A4LD... and like I said... it was manufactured in France, not here in the USA like most of our trannies

I was traveling in Baja, Mex. with my wife when my tranny decided to call it quits...The guys in the park know me from our first trip there in '98. We saw this article in FOURWHEELER about this mountain park...blah, blah, blah, and realized that there are numerous trails/places to camp that just aren't being used. Well, our transmission made this neat grinding sound, and it decided not to function in 2WD/4HI. Since the park has this University astronomy tower, the guys that work in the maintenance department have this full shop that they service their F350, Land Rover, Silverado, and '98 Volkswagon Bugs (not the newer Beetles, but the old-school variety). They couldn't figure out the problem without pulling the trans apart, so they offered to watch my truck while we went for help. 2 days later, and 250 miles without wheels, we made it home...4 weeks later, I'm driving my own truck to work [FINALLY!], with my new clutch and rebuilt trans. The trans is still dripping 1 or 2 drops a day, so I'll send it back in before my next 3 day weekend (when I can get a rental car, etc). I'm planning on getting a trans cooler since this may help keep things cool while on the trail...If anyone wants to see the park in Baja that I got stuck at, here is the link...
