One fine, beautiful day, my locking mech in my 2000 Ford Explorer decided it was going to do what it wanted to do. Here is whats happening.

1. When you put the car in drive and release the brake, The locks used to lock.....now they don't.
2. Using the remote, they wont lock........but they will unlock. (The horn will still honk if its pressed twice)
3. The key pad on the door will unlock......but not lock.
4. The lock switch on the door panel will do the same, unlock but not lock.

Now for the weird part......

The only way I can lock my car is in the cargo area.......the switch there works.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Brian

Unfortunately, that sounds electrical. I don't know exactly how the system is set up, but I would check your fuses and relays before going to schematics to figure out the wiring problem. Wish I could help more :-\

There are two separate wires connected to the lock relay terminal. One goes to the cargo area switch, the other gets spliced into and is connected to the front lock switches and the RAP. Sounds like something to do with that wire isn't right. You may want to check the splice, which according to alldata is located near a connector in the driver's side B pillar. Or at least, best as I can tell from this...

One possible solution

I had a similar set of problems when I bought my 98 Mounty a few years back...no automatic locking doors, remote locks not working, etc. Here's the really weird part. I also had the CHMSL (center high mount stop light) burned out along with one of the filimants in one of the tail lights. Fixed those and voila...locking issues went away. I think it had something to do with the light circuit to the CHMSL. Don't know if this will help but it sure won't take long to check your lights!

Good luck!

I will check the lights tomorrow.....thought they all were working ok, but you never know.......thanks for the tip! I will keep you posted.

As mentioned, your most likely cause of problem is a broken wire going to the lock relay in the cargo panel. The most likely break is the splice area near the rear passenger door area (cable raceway)... moving towards the lock relay itself...since your auto locks don't work either. As indicated, there is wiring coming from the cargo switch, wiring from the front switches AND wiring from the RAP module (auto locks).

lmfao!!!!!

gee....thanks....toolbag!
Sorry. I thought you were trying to be funny with the sentence I bolded and enlarged. You explained a bunch of weird stuff, and THEN made that statement. Again, sorry if I offended you.
