Does anyone know how to adjust the head light on a 2002 mountaineer. I Found the adjustment for up and down but left to right is a problem. Right now the light beams cross each other. Help.

There is no side to side adjustment on the 2002 Explorers. If you have an owner's manual, it will tell you how to adjust your headlights.

Some don't have a side to side - because they should be rather straight if mounted correctly. I know my girlfriends mustang headlights I just replaced didn't have an adjustment for side to side. Good luck.

If the beams are that far off, maybe the headlight assembly is not latched in properly. Check to make sure the clips to hold the assembly in place are snapped down the way they should be.

One more thing, make sure the bulbs are seated properly in the housing.

my 2002 X, has a 3 point adjustment. Up and Down is easy, you just need a 4mm socket to do it. Left and rigth are more of art and you will need pliers to do it.

Thanks for the feedback

Well, I didn't want to have to resurrect a six-year old post, so I didn't start a new thread, since this is on topic...

I don't have the owner's manual for my 2002 XLS. So, could someone please explain to me where the adjustment locations are, and how exactly to adjust them? My left light is pointing at the far left edge across the oncoming lane, and my right one is pointing at the centerline (both when on a two-lane road). The left one is aimed only about 15 feet in front of the vehicle, and the right one is aimed about 30 feet in front.

If I knew where to find the adjustment points, I would, but I don't.

Thanks!

I have an 05 Explorer and my manual says there is no adjustment for side to side headlight adjusting, just up and down. Grumpy is right.

This might be longwinded, but here goes. My 20 4.0 4x4 XLT head lights are adjusted by a hex shaft for up and down, the left and right adjustment is made by lifting the hold in clamps for the headlight. You lift the clamp and spin the light mount in or out to make the light adjust. It is a pain, but it is the only way to aim the headlights. Just traded my truck for a 08 Escape, otherwise I could take pics to help show the clips. hope this helps. Pete

Thanks, Pete... That at least tells me what to look for. I just got an owner's manual off that world wide garage sale, and I'll wait till it comes in.

And no, it wasn't long-winded at all... :D

Thanks, If you still need help, give me a shout. I'm up at least once a day. Pete
