Head unit swap

My cd changer in my 96 x stopped working, won't recognize any cds being in the unit. I have a Mach 1 premium system with mutli cd out of a 2001 Mustang. Can I install the premium system in my X? Is there a harness made for this? Can this be done? Is it worth it? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

I don't think the Mustang unit will work. It probably was hooked to factory amps, which means it has no deck power. Just low level signal.

Oooh, I didn't think about that, I doubt theres an amp in the 96 X from the factory. I do have an aftermarket amp, I'll check about that and reply back later. Thanks nvrenufedge for the reply.

your '96 should have an amp above the passenger rear wheel well. not sure if you factory deck is low level or speaker level output though

I have a factory amp and sub enclosure from my 2000 limited that will fit in the rear cargo area over the wheel well if you want it.

I did remove the factory sub from the box as it was blown but it can be replaced fairly easily. The amp itself is still mounted to the enclosure so it should just drop in behind the cargo wall panel

let me know if you want it. Its just sitting on the floor in my closet now

Iron-Mike. How much $$ for the amp and enclosure? The 96 X doesn't have an amp in the back (does it?), it has a storage pocket, no sub. BUT, my 2001 Limited does and my amp is shot, sub is ok. I can use yours in my 2001, right? Shouldn't the plugs be the same?
