I have a 1996 Explorer 4.0 Eddie Bauer 4 door that seems to be having some sort of an electrical issue.

Usually when the explorer sits for an extended period of time usually 6-8 hours I will start it up and turn the headlights on. When I do this normally the fog light switch indicator light will illuminate letting me know the fog lights are on. A few weeks ago I started noticing that the light wasn't coming on so I figured the light had burned out but it didn't I got out of the truck and looked to see that I only had one head light on (drivers side) and no fog lights so I started heading towards the fuse panel and before I could reach it the passenger headlight came on as did the fog lights including the indicator light.

This is a reoccurring problem but sporadic to say the least. Every time I attempt to look into the problem further the lights come on and I have no means to replicate it in order to find the actual problem.

Some things I have done, noticed and learned while this is going on are that I see from a Haynes manual that the passenger side headlamp and fog lights are tied together from the same 10 amp fuse located inside the fuse panel on the inside of the explorer by the drivers door, I replaced this fuse on a hope and a prayer but the problem remains. The high beam in the passenger headlight still works even when the low beam does not. When the problem does present itself it will usually start working within 5-10 minutes of idling or driving but not always.

That's about all the information I can think to offer at this point and time. Any help that could be given would be greatly appreciated, I have a hard enough time seeing at night with the two headlights let alone just one so I would like to get the fixed so I am not endangering other people on the road.

its most likely a LOM issue... millions of posts. Some fix, some replace depends on your time, money, and skill.

I have had the information center tell me to check lamps and what not and it was usually correct, I had a blown bulb. With this problem however the information center in my center console isn't telling me there is a problem.

Could the LOM still be faulty even though it's not telling me the bulbs out?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, just don't want to start pulling my truck apart to get at this thing if it isn't the problem, even though I will probably have to in order to rule it out.

You could be right that it isn't the problem.... but I think the "hint" was "millions of posts"... a little search will probably tell you everything that you will need to resolve the issue one way or the other. Whether your information center works or not is not really related to the LOM failure as you will "probably" see.

Sir could you please telll me where the Lom mudule is on a 96 E B explorer 6 cyl 4X4 I am very new at this post or any. I am fumbling my way around. My aol account is Milan276@aol.com thank you

It's located in the center console. Pull out the information center and the piece that contains the ash tray and tissue holder both are held in with spring clips and will come out with a little effort. The LOM is going to be mounted to the right side of the center console with the plug pointing towards the front of the truck and it's held in place with two Philips head screws.
