I've got a 98 Explorer Sport, and i have an idea of how to change the headlights, its just i can't seem to get to them. On the driver side, I have the battery in the way, and I have no clue about going about removing it. On the passenger side, i have the air filter, it seems. I've unclipped it, but i cant get it out. THIS is the part i need assistance with. Everytime i go somewhere to get it changed, they tell me it is too complicated for them to work on it, and that doesnt help my spirits in trying to change them. So if someoen could please help me with my problem, i would greatly appreciate it. ~~Brian

The air filter is sometimes attached to the fender and always held in place by rubber gromets. You just gotta pull it up & out. Battery is held down by one bolt on the side of it. Do you have a metric socket set?

yeah, and on the air filter side, there is a plastic grate, is there a way to get that one off?

I assume you have the flat air cleaner(a/c) as opposed to the round one. You remove the top and remove the filter and the lower part of the a/c that held the filter just pulls up/off from its mounts. You have to pull HARD.

When I had my X, I managed to squeeze my had in the "lift for headlights" flapper and I've succesfully changed them with no scratch on the bulb or myself. I just had to forcefully have my hand squeezed in there. :D

Thanks guys, i was able to just "pull" the filter out, pretty hard, and remove the battery, and then changing them was a piece of cake, they look awesome now,
