Year, Model & Trim Level
2020 Explorer XLT
I sure hope this hasn't been asked before, but unfortunately, the search function on this site is worse than about anything I've ever experienced.

I have a 2020 Explorer XLT, and all winter, if I set the heat to MAX (or anything below; clarifying to state even on MAX), I only get heat blowing when under acceleration. When I let off the throttle, or god forbid stop at a stoplight, I get air consistent with Air Conditioning (when the temps are around 10 degrees outside). Normal or problem?

Not normal at all. Mine never changes at all. I would get it to service ASAP.

Not normal at all. Have you checked the coolant level? Has it always been like this?
BTW, the 'Search' function works very well if you use it properly. I use it daily and find what I'm looking for.

Coolant level is good. Yes, it has always done it, although I rarely drive it in the winter. The cold snap yesterday really exacerbated it.

In regards to the search function, every other forum in the world let’s you search a certain section, such as 2020+ Explorers. The Google search bar here doesn’t, and no amount of keywords helps. I tried putting the year, model, etc in my search. It returned mostly 2000-2005 vehicle issues. Specifically a 2003 with a similar issue. I sure wish they’d allow normal searching where you can drill down to the forum you want to search.

EDIT: Pulling this up on a phone allows this functionality! I feel like a whole new person. On my desktop, all I can do is use the unintelligent Google search bar at the top of each page. But on mobile, by golly, there’s a real search function. I stand corrected. Partially.

With the desktop there is a search function in the upper right above the google search. That might help you out. It's to the right of your user name when logged in.

The 'Search' tab in the upper right is what I always use. It allows you to chose the sub forums. I click on 'Search", then 'Advance search' and then on the next screen I choose 'Search threads' and then after typing in the search criteria you can choose the sub forum and finally click 'Display as threads' at the very bottom.

My explorer is like many diesels I have owned. Going down hill or start and stop traffic really limits the heat you have. It’s a small, efficient 4 cylinder with a large cabin to heat. Until everything gets up to temp you are limited in heat output. I myself was shocked thinking the grille vents should really help the little engine get some heat.

Well, got it back from Ford. When they did the transmission cooler recall, they left a giant bubble in the coolant system, and it couldn’t work itself up to the reservoir at the top. They pressure purged the system and refilled - problem solved.

Glad to hear they fixed it for you.
