heater core issues

hello everyone, at the age of 60 i just recently bought my first ford, a 1996 explorer with a 4.0 automatic it has a few issues that i could you your help with.i intend to replace the heater core but not sure how, i don't want to tear more of the dash apart than i need to. i could use your help.thanks

Is the heater core leaking or clogged, or something else?

If its not leaking, I wouldn't bother replacing it. If its clogged, back-flush it using the fire wall hose connections, then fill the core with 100% CLR, let it sit for 15-20 mins, then back-flush it really well.
