Not sure where to post exactly. But my kid has my old 2005 explorer (not sure trim level) down at college. I am looking for direction on what this major leak might be. Bell housing? Differential? Transfer? Headed down this week to check it out. This is what I know as of right now. Its black liquid not red. Oil on dipstick still shows acceptable level. Car making heavy thud noise on tire rotation. A loud popping sound when switching from reverse to drive.
Told my kid to leave it parked until we go down but any suggestions would be appreciated.
