My 2006 Explorer XLT RSC V8 6r60 tranny sporadically slips in 1st gear. From a dead stop the symptoms are there is a loud fan like sound almost like a very loud electric radiator fan and when you accelerate the engine rpms wind up but the car barely moves. It acts like a clutch being ridden in a standard.
I took it to the dealer and they said it was 1/2 a quart low on transmission fluid and the fluid looked ok and didn't smell burnt. Took it home drove it roughly 120 miles the next day and it did it again though it wasn't prolonged.
