Here is the deal. I installed a cd player in my car yesterday which was sunday. I went out to start it to go to work and it wont start....it would crank and crank but no start....so my bro in law came over and looked at it he checked the fuel pump and it was getting fuel.....then we checked the fire, you know pulling out the plug and leaving it in the plug wire and cranking it but it got no fire... checked all fuses and we are running out of ideas anyone know anything else it maybe or to check

Does the vehicle have PATS? this is a built in securtiy system

When you installed your new radio did you mess something up? Did you disco the battery before the install? It's possible you spiked a circuit if the battery was hooked up and you grounded out the wrong wire, etc. Check all your fuses.

Does the truck have a anti theft light? is it on?

1997 didn't have PATS.. PATS system started in 1998. You can try jumpering the starter relay on the fenderwell. Get a screwdriver or pliers and make contact with both terminals and see if the starter will turn over. If it does, it may be a loose wire to the starter solenoid or a bad solenoid.

I thought late model year 97 had PATS.......

I've never seen a late 97 with PATS but I may be wrong.

check to make sure that your PCM power relay is operated. Without it operating your PCM module will not be functional and therefore your won't be getting spark because the PCM won't be telling the coil "to spark"...:-)

i have a early 97 mountaineer, with the same problem, went out mudding, made it home lost all gears but reverse. drove truck in reverse into driveway, and parked it. next day I went back to start it and all i got was a click. A CLICK, tried crossing terminals on celenoid and nothing , jumped terminals on starter and it clicked , NO turn. flywheel is still free moving so the transmision is still free moving, so tranny isnt frozen.

So question is do I take the starter out and replace it?
