I am picking up my 06 EB V8 this week. I've been looking around the internet for the usual performance mods--cold air induction, cat back, chip/reflash, etc--and found very little. Are the after market companies shunning the '06?

The Explorer stock air induction looks like a gauntlet, and totally different from the other Ford 4.6 vehicles. It looks like a K&N, etc., cold air kit would help. If anyone has found a source for 4.6 3V performance mods, let me know!

Got a pic? I would like to see what you are talking about with the "gauntlet" for an intake. Does the tb come out over the front of the engine like the 05 mustang?

Check to see if the Pulley kit for an 05 mustang will work, call FRPP tech line, they should be able to tell you what size the pullies are on each.

Either make you own custom cat-back system or have one made. I think I saw on TV yesterday on Spike that Minake or Midas now sells Flowmaster. They might be able to hook you up if no system is currently available.

Bamachips might be able to come up with a flash tune for you.

Poke around on some of the websites of High performance companies, I am always seeing "donor vehicles wanted" and it is always current model year vehicles that they are looking for, and they pay you in the part that they produce, ususally.

Just some ideas.

there are plenty of exhaust kits for 02-05's. I could be wrong but I think the exhaust is identical minus the headers. JBA usually is pretty good about manufacturing headers for this vehicle. I would give them a call and ask them to put it on the drawing board, if they havnt already done it.

I used my stock airbox but just replaced the element with a cone. Made a nice difference and still sucks cold air. But from the sound of it you have a cone with no airbox.

As far as the motor you can pretty much due anything possible as the 05' Mustangs.

Call SCT Performance and see if they have or are working on a performance flash for the computer.

Good luck and congrats!!! LOVE your interior. If everything lines up im thinking of coverting my front end to the 06' model.

Congrats on the new truck. But your exhaust can be custom made for you using a choice of any muffler you choose. I persoanlly like magnaflow. Its not to hard to get done.

reprogrammed chips and big MAF you can get on ExplorerExpress.com

theres nothing yet. i just called for you and he said im actually the first person to ask about an 06'. i told him to get it on the board because he will start to receive quite a bit of calls. ;) They will do it... their good.

They will first work on an air filter unit. he said that GF nor Eibach make any springs for it yet.

sorry, but that´s not right ! I already asked for chipping because of the 100 mph-limit on feb.01.st, mailed with Dave Vanek from E.E.

Only reason why I don´t have the chip is that it´s too expensive to me actually ( 425 $$ plus 86 $$ shipping plus VAT in GE ).

On my question about cheaper ways to get rid of the limitter I haven´t got any answer.

What they need for the right chip is the EEC box code.

So far about "the first question for 2006 Explorers" ...... :fire:

Well thats what he told me. Im not sure if it was Dave or not. Oh well.

I would try SCT to see if they have a flash file to work with an Xcal to take out the limiter. The Xcal2 should be way cheaper than $500.

In fact I bought the Xcal2. And now have an extra Xcal1 complete with everything. If anyone is interested Ill sell it at a fair price..

I´ll wait for next week when my automotive specialist at my local dealer is back from training, will see if the Vmax-Limitter can be disabled / set to higher Vmax. with the Ford-WDS. I don´t need any performance-changes, just that speed-barrier drives me nuts.

Gauntlet Pic

Sorry I took so long getting back to this thread--I was out of town for a while. Here's a pic of "the gauntlet" so you can see why I so much want a K&N, etc., to replace the intake ducting. There has to be a smoother way to feed the intake and vacuum requirements without the side chambers. I don't care about intake noise. Is any company working on this?

Wow, am I seeing that correctly, the intake tube is pinched down in front of the TB? Is that so that it will clear the supports in the hood?

The price is so much because it is a new application. When I bought my Stang, it was still the new body style. I noticed that parts for mine were always about $20-30 higher than anything for a 94-98 and about $50-70 higher that anything for a fox body. Now that the 05 is out, parts for mine are about $20-50 less.

I like that setup!!! I wish I had that... if my X had that I would make a hole on my hood scoop and make a ram air!!! ive been looking at how to do that as a matter of fact.

I was thinking that too about the ram air, but where is the MAF? You would have to figure out how to sandwich the MAF between the TB and the filter element in the hood.

MAF is close to filter enclosure, guess only way is the big MAF like ExplorerExpress offers. Or a self-made-adapter to use the original MAF and set it between hood and TB. I was thinking about a K&N, but stopped it because I haven´t figured out how to deal with the MAF :(

We just completed the MAF housings and will be working on the intake tube and mountings in the coming days.

What is the ID of this housing?

Will it accept the stock Ford electronics like a C & L MAF housing?

Thanks ....

We supply our systems with S&B filters, which are the same material and construction as K&N.
