while in reverse, applying the brakes a moan comes from what seems to be the rear brakes. also there is a grinding sound(in the front suspension?) when making 90 degree turns. i have a seven day trial on this, just bought it... thanks

You're buying an old vehicle. That is why Explorers become dirt cheap. Just front wheel bearings will run over $1000 if this is 4 wheel drive. While you are at it, check to see if the emergency brake still works. They fall apart (I mean it, the shoes fall off) by this time. I've only bought Explorers when they have over 100K on them. They are cheap and I do all the work on them. Between brakes and half shafts, you will be paying someone else more than 1K right off the bat.
