98 XLT Quest
Joined the board mostly for some advice.
Am pretty good with cars and have done some rebuilds and import mods but am unfamiliar with the explorer. I've got a 98 XLT and if I floor it the acceleration sucks big time, if I ease on to it it is a lot better what is the deal and how do I fix it. I need these things fixed before I go the diablo chip and mod route please help.

G'Day and Welcome

Welcome to the board...you'll find this to be an active response board, but can you post more details about the symptoms and any specs/mods that might contribute to this?
=note= Can't wait to visit down under someday :D
:chug:

No mods as of yet.
The problem does not affect daily driving it is only a problem when I floor it, the acceleration is much better if I just ease on to the gas to full throttle. If I floor it it takes off slower than if I ease to full throttle.
Could it be my Cat's or aybe a collapsing fuel line, again not too familiar with this truck.
Oh yeah Sydney is pretty cool.

I had this problem with my Dad's '96, it seemed to start to do it when the tranny started going out. I stopped driving it a little while after that so I never knew if a new tranny fixed the problem...

Assuming that you've kept up with 'regular' maintenance, (ie: tune up, fluid and filter changes), you have reached the next level of do-it-yourself fixes.
You can rule out the trans if the motor bogs in neutral.
It sounds more like a dirty/clogged fuel/exhaust part.
I don't know the specifics of the '98 so check the board for applicability.
-Clean MAF
-check the Fuel pressure Regulator
-Fuel Pump?
-It sounds like clogged cats to me and there is no way of testing them.

Thanks man that's what I thought with the cats, and I know you can't test em, will try the other hings too. Haven't tried it in neutral yet I'll give that a try, but I've had tranny probs in the past and this doesn't feel like one. Thanks for the input man.
Also the engine in my x is the 4 liter when looking for bolt ons what year is this eg 94-2000, just so I know what fits.;)

Hey, I hope you all get this. I have a 91 XLT. I had a similar problem. Thank goodness i work for a mazda dealer so i hooked it up to the computer and put the TPS on the scope and noticed that my TPS was bad. When i pushed on the gas the comp couldn't tell where the throttle was. I replaced the TPS, A 40 dollar part and it fixed it perfect. seeing its cheaper than cats i would suggest trying that to be safe.:bounce:
