I just finished installing new heads in my 91 navajo, I plugged all the injectors in and I'm still left with a long cord that has a fuel injector connection on it....The truck is not starting and I think this is the problem....did I miss a connection somewhere?

I double checked and....

I cannot seem to see any other connection that the plug could go in.... all the injectors are plugged in, the sensors on the throttle body, MAF, IAC, lower intake....all connected, yet this plug seems to have no connection.... I'm wondering if it is used for diagnostic stuff....

that extra one goes to the flux capacitor...it hooks up inside the truck :D

but really ...if the truck wont start then you missed one .look at the little clips on the side of the harness ,since they ride on top of the engine the plastic can become brittle and i bet you thought you put all of them on there but one of them popped off . tho i find it hard to belive that this could happen since all of the injector harness's are pretty much laid out right where they should be when they connect onto the injector .the injectors i think on the drivers side are harder to see if any compared to the passenger side of the truck so if all on the pass' side look good and are on there then i would look to the drivers to see if one came off .

but doonze is right a pic would helpfull .

OK here goes, the offending cord is in the first picture. the second picture shows the engine wire harness (blue and orange arrows) and the cord (red arrow)

I'm having some other starting issues too.....the engine cranks, but that's all.... I'm not smelling any gas at the tailpipe or engine bay, so I think I'm not getting fuel

Just throwing this out there, but prior to pulling the injectors, did you trip the fuel inertia switch and forget to reset it after everything was installed?

I pulled the killswitch and cranked the engine to relieve fuel pressure. When everything was buttoned up I plugged the switch back in; no ignition. when I pulled a sparkplug and cranked it, I could not see a spark (though I was doing this by myself and did not have the plug grounded very well) I did not smell any fuel after cranking the engine a few times.

I cleaned the coil and all the plug wires and still nothing. I'm not sure if I tripped the switch how would I go about resetting it?

crankshaft postion sensor is what that wire is the sensor is right above the harmonic balancer ( that can give you starting issues..it tells the computer when a cyl is about ready to be fired from the plug )

just looked at mine and that wire loom runs right down to it ....other than that it can't be going to the a/c .they share almost the same loom but different connector end tho .

sure enough that's what it was....now its running really rough and misfiring...should that be normal after a head replacement? or should it run smooth right off the bat? hmmmm time to check spark gap

now i would go ahead and replace the plugs and make sure the computer is blanked out then try starting it again

I had a rough running engine after I swapped engines. Mine cleared up after driving it on the highway, under load. It was a sticky injector.

I also changed out all the plugs. Replaced them with Autolite Double Platinums.

I'm afraid of doing more harm than good by running the engine harder with the way it sounds. However if it is an injector would that free it up?

when you re-did the top end and when you put the injectors in did you use any silicone based lube to seat the injectors ?

I left the upper intake manifold and fuel rail together, I did not pull the injectors at all. I don't have any torx sockets to get the two apart.

that extra one goes to the flux capacitor...it hooks up inside the truck :D

Actually, the flux capacitor can be located anywhere in/on the vehicle. There is now an aftermarket one available, that can be used on any vehicle...but it's quite costly ($175,000.00 + shipping).

While you're there, maybe pick up some blinker fluid or an engine oil bypass kit.

Sorry BlakeOfDoom, I don't have an answer for you, but I saw the mention of the flux capacitor, and had to let everyone know where to get one.

EDIT: This wasn't meant to sound sarcastic...click on the link and see all the fun things you can "buy". Muffler bearings, cross-drilled brake lines, etc.
