The code is on the outside of a little box/module thingy (I think it's white) you'll find by opening up the compartment in the rear, driver's side where the jack is located. It's difficult to read the code head on. Try a small mirror or loosen the bolt holding the box in place and adjust the box so you'll see the code. That's how I saw my code on my '99. I used it to set my own code (see owner's manual for instructions on how to do it).

I have a 2000 XLT and when I bought it, I had the same problem. Take it to a Ford dealer and they have a diagnostic tool that will electronically read that #. It costs $75.00. Good luck.

You paid $75 when you could have just viewed it yourself? Took me 5 minutes to locate it. Another blatant example of stealership robbery!

The place I bought it from gave it to me but I still haven't found it!

I think i found my keyless entry number???

Guys, i'm new to this but help me out here. I just purchased a 2004 XLS and all i have is a key with the chip in it. I just looked in my paperwork in the glove box and it has a credit card style card with a 5 digit code on it and the card says "This is the permanent access code to the "Keyless Entry System", is this the code i need to program any new remotes as i dont have any?

Thanks in advance

Also, the keys that i see on Ebay claiming to have chips in them, are they any good to reprogram to my vehicle?

The 5 digit code is just that, the code to a keyless entry in the door. It MIGHT help you program the little Ford keyless fobs, but I've always had aftermarket security so I don't really know for sure. I didn't think the XLS came with the keypad on the driver's door, so if it did, consider yourself lucky (EDIT, I see you have a 3rd Gen Ex, my comments relate to 2nd gen). The original poster was looking for that code. My '99 Eddie Bauer didn't come with the code and I had to go looking for the code in the jack hatch.

To program a new key (2nd gen Exploters), you need two other keys. It's dead easy. You pretty much put in the 1st key, turn it on, turn it off. Put in a second key, do the same, then put in the new key and do the same and the code gets transferred to the new key. I would assume it's similar for your Explorer. I do know that the keys for 2nd gens (95-01) and 3rd gen ('02+) are not compatible. The sellers on eBay usually distinguish which years the keys work with.

If you only have one key, you need to go to a dealer or certain locksmiths and they will rape you to do the programming for you. They also overcharge for the blanks. I scored a ton of those blanks on eBay so I make sure I always have a minimum of 2 keys as spares in addition to my day to day key.

hi! does its work the same on a ´96 explorer sport?
sorry for my bad english, i´m from Aguascalientes, Mexico.
