96' Ford Explorer XLT 4x4
Ok i dont remember if i asked this question or not, i had this problem even when my 96 explorer 4x4 4.0 L was stock. When Im going at highway speeds after about 20 minutes my O/D light starts blinking, which I know means its something to do with the tranny. Then when I slow to slower speeds it down shifts and upshifts very roughly. I know have the 3inch body lift and 33's on it with the 3.73 gears. Which I know i need some better gears. But what could be causing this issue? It has to be something specific considering it only happends after cruisng at highway speeds! Please help any suggestions or ideas would help. Thanks a lot guys!

bump....please help...

if the OD light is blinking you need to pull the transmission codes from the trucks computer.

Continuing to drive it like this can kill your transmission, this could be a easy fix that ends up costing you a new trans if you dont get the codes.

Also try doing a search, the flashing OD light is duscussed on here often

The computer code will TELL YOU whats wrong

mine does that too occasionaly...better get those codes pulled

i do appreciate the help but i thought the problem would sound pretty specific since it only does it at high speeds but i guess ill go to autozone...

Torque Converot solenoid switch. $100.00 Fixed!

if you ignore the codes and just throw parts at it this is the WRONG approach.

Flashing OD light = code in memory telling you what the fault is

its up to you

the problem is that it doesnt store the codes in the memory, ive tried reading the codes and it comes up with nothing. I just havent gotten the chance to make it to an autozone while its begain to flash...By the way they always wanna turn the ignition off when they do the diagonostics on it. But if they turn off the ignition the O/D light will go off, an di know it hasnt been storing it in memory. Should I just tell them to do the diagnostics with the ignition on?

You could always buy a code reader. It is a good investment. You can take the reader with you and use it on the go.

go to dealer? maybe the one that autozone uses is just for the engine light, like mine is. just an idea

i do appreciate all the help guys...yesterday i took the exploder off-road for the first time and tried out the 33" BFG A/T...man they performed VERY well...
