Help, my wipers quit working!

Tonight in a rainstorm the wipers wouldn't come on except on the high speed setting. The washers, both front and rear don't work and the rear wiper won't come on at all. They all worked perfectly last week. I checked to see that the fuse 55 was plugged in tight. Any suggestions or comments as to what might be the problem?

I'd like any help on this one too. My 2001 did EXACTLY the same thing. They've only been workingon the high setting the last couple of months and now....nothing. Ugh. Oh and it's supposed to rain the next few days...of course. :-/

It is easy the wiper motor or the switch built into the lever. The lever is $40 +/- and is easy to change out if you are out of warranty. My guess is the switch and should take you a few minutes to change it.

If you are good at electrical troubleshooting I can help. I'm not a big fan of part swapping unless I can confirm a bad part.

Here is some helpful info:

Front motor has built in control board for washer pumps and rear wipers.
All switch positions are communicated to the wiper motor control board via LIN bus. High speed setting is sent to the wiper motor over a standard voltage signal wire.

This is a safety feature because if the LIN bus goes down or the steering column control module (stalks are part of this) LIN transceiver go bad then the regular high speed wire is a back up.

Since it works on High speed this eliminates power and ground to the wiper motor. It's either bad switch, bad wiper motor assembly, or lin bus wire is cut/shorted out.

I had a similar problem on my old 2013 XLT - except it would randomly stop working and then start working when in use.

Dealer just threw parts at it really as they changed the multi function switch - then the wiper motor and it still would do it ....the funny thing is the day I traded it in it did the same thing...worked and then stopped working and then worked again..told the dealer...not too sure if they addressed it..car sold 3 days later.

Hello, i am having the same issue in my 2018. Its not my switch. How do I check to figure out lin bus or motor? My front and rear wipers quit and also my washer fluid. My fronts only work on high. I am getting a code B1131:08. I have tried the switch but that did not work. Any ideas?

Thank you! Yes front wipers only work on high, rear does not work and washer fluid does not work.

Can you hear the washer pump trying to work? If not, the pump may be the issue.

Might be the wiper assembly itself. IIRC high speed is a bypass. If something goes wrong you can always run high, safety reasons. If you have already replaced the arm, then it's either wiring (cut/short) or the wiper assembly itself.

I would think that in either case, should you not be able to hear the pump when it is activated. Perhaps there is more than 1 issue here.

I doubt that he meant the motor, otherwise the wipers would not be able to run on high as mentioned. In any case, I think you should be able to hear the washer pump when it is activated. That could explain why the washers aren't working assuming there is fluid in the container.
The pump is not easily accessible but you could check to see if there is actually power going to the motor. If there is no power, the problem may be elsewhere. If all fails, take it to the dealer or another garage.
