My transmission went out on my 2000 eb 4x4 4.0 sohc and I have a 98 eb 4x4 4.0 sohc motor and transmission that I wanna put in it... I was wondering if a 98 motor and trans will hook up in my 2000 model

Yes they will. There may be an issue with the fuel return system, ford went with a returnless system but I don't remember what year it switched.

The 2000 harness will "feel" like it plugs into the 98 injectors, but the connection will not be made. The 99-up fuel system is returnless, so, 98 fuel system parts will not work. The 98 fuel rail has an actual regulator on it, while the 99-up is merely a pulse damper. These will not interchange.

Some sensors will have different connectors also.

can he just swap intakes to make the fuel work with his truck?

Why not just switch out the transmission if your motor is still good? Seems like xtra work just to replace the same engine. Or is there another issue I'm not aware of?

The motor in the 2000 sound like timing chain is rattling

Also the 98 is a new motor and transmission.... So to make this happen what will I need do or will it even work?

The long block is the same.
Reuse all the components from the 2000 and it's a direct swap.
