i had to replace the transfer case in my 1997 5 speed 4.0 v-6 explorer and since i replaced it the speedometer doesnt work, and there is an extra connector compared to the old one. I'm not sure what year or trans the transfer case came off but it looks the same but is missing this electrical connection that was on the old one. Do i need to have a transfer case off another 5 speed in order to have a speedo? or is there any other way to run it? any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks. the four wheel drive still locks in just fine, i had the transmission rebuilt when the transfer case and didnt see any connections on it. i feel like a jack *** but im really confused and trying to sell the vehicle as of right now but nobody wants a truck with out a speedo. ive tried looking in these forums and online else where and cant find any help, even my local ford dealer had no idea but wanted $100 to just look at it, so dont want to do that if i dont have to.

Check for a cylinder off of the rear of the rear driveline outlet of the transfer case. This is the VSS and Traction Control sensor. It is gear driven and plastic, but helps the computer identify speed and traction.

the speed sensor in 95-97 is in the transfer case. for 98-01 the were in the rear diff. more then likely the case came from a 98 and up, and that is why you have no speedo now.
