im soon to do the same and i have no idea what im doing but i have a mechanic helping me so as soon as i get it done i will try to help you

cut the wires, and put on the correct connectors for the speakers,, they are available at most parts stores, or audio shops,,

i have a feeling this thread will be moved to the Explorer Audio & Navigation section..

crutchfield sells a no hassle/cutting adapter that plugs into the stock output plug and into the speaker terminals.. i didnt order one when i changed my speakers and just cut out the wires and soldered them to the terminal instead.. just make sure the polarity of the speaker wires are correct (speaker terminal polarity can be seen on the box and at the12volt.com website for your vehicle)...

Goodluck!!

If you're sure you'll never want to put the factory speakers back in, by all means, go ahead and cut the wires.

If you're planning to pop the aftermarket ones out and put factory ones back in if/when you sell it, and/or just want to be nice to the next owner of your vehicle or have a way to disconnect the speakers for any kind of needed removal, go ahead and get a factory plug adapter.

You can get them at most stereo shops, and some auto parts stores have them. I know AutoZone does. Bring in your factory speaker to match up the plug type, though they usually only have one for Fords.

Anytime I do stereo work I always pull new wire. The stock cabling can end up being a little on the small side for some applications. It is more work and a little more cost but it gives you the best of both worlds. You can always go back to stock because the stock wires are there and you don't have to get adapters because you pulled the cable. If you spend the coin on decent copper you also have it in place for upgrades down the road. Also spend a little extra on heat-shrink. It will give you a little extra protection against wiring faults and give your project a nice, finished look.

i agree with CFFrank i also all ways pull new wire but then again i all ways run my door speakers of a amp and crossover and not the dash.wayyyy better sound and you can cut the low notes out to keep them from blowing!!
