So I was working in my girlfriends 2005 Sport Trac, and thought it would be nice to install some led strips in her footwells (done it plenty of time in other cars.) She has the stock radio, so (with everything disconnected of course) I cut constant line and splice in the positive light line. Now, my car has a ton of plastic behind the radio, so I've never had to worry about my wires hitting anything other than each other. Without thinking, I sat the constant wire down and surprise, sparks galore. So there I was, looking stupid, with no power running to the line any longer. I reconnected the two ends of the constant line and re-attached the lights to the cigarette lighter line. Lights worked fine. But radio didn't come on. Duh, blown fuse. Sure enough, fuse #29 was blown, and we promptly replaced it with another fuse, to no avail. #28 was fine, replaced it anyway for good measure. Still nothing.

So I'm at a loss. Couldn't have blown out the radio, as it was disconnected at the time of the incident. The line is fine and intact. But no radio. And now I look stupid, so what can i do to fix her radio.

Please and thank you

You still could've blown her radio, just because the power is off doesn't mean power isnt running through the vehicle... to do stuff like that you need to disconnect the battery. The "constant" wire is constant because it constantly has power through it... regardless of key position. So, if no other fuses are blown, you've fried that sucker.

Fuse

Try battery junction box fuse # 39.
If the Radio was completely unplugged at time of short to ground then it is probably OK.

Fuse

Check Battery Junction Box fuse 1 also.

Interscope, I recognize the mechanics of the constant wire. I would've disconnected the battery had I realized there would be any problems, but it's not a problem I've run into. I find it hard to image the headunit is gone seeing as it was 20ft away at the time of the incident, unless I'm completely clueless, I think its ok. I think I'm going to test a cheap old head I have lying around just in case though.

And thanks 4pointslow, I'll check come morning.

Also, is there any sort of inline fuse further down I would have to worry about? Or not?

i had the same issue on mine i shorted out the constant and it has if i recall 3 fuses that power the wire. there is one under the hood and then two in the side panel on the drivers side. check all fuses including ones you would not expect. if i recall the one under the hood is not marked as radio is something like retained accessory power. so check all fuses. i had the one under the hood pop honestly the last place you would think a radio fuse to be.

There is no inline fuse in the wiring diagram.

I misread the OP saying it was completely removed... wasn't trying to be condescending either. Just trying to help
