I have a 2000 Explorer XLT (186K mi) with a hesitation/ jumping problem. First it seemed to only do this when it rained or there was moisture in the air, but it randomly does it during acceleration, especially if the heater or AC are on. Check engine light always reads cam shaft sensor, which has been replaced twice with no correction. I've had alot of work done to this truck, the engine is solid and I love it but I'm at my end trying to figure this out. My personal mechanic believes it's some kind of electrical issue. Any ideas?
Thanks for your time!

P.S. - Has new plugs, does not have a rough idle.

Did you check the voltage at the cam and crankshaft sensors? Sounds like maybe a bad wire/connection.

you need to tell us the code... not the "interpretation"... then someone on the forum might have a better idea for what to address.

repeated P0340 after proper sensor replacement is a sure sign the alternator is going bad. (rectifier) This may give a drive-ability issue also.

I would check your voltage regulator first and replace it first, advance auto sells them for around 46.99-way cheaper than a new alternator.

I heard(correct me if wrong) if your voltage regulator is bad it can cause problems like a weaker than normal battery and even slightly flickering lights I think.
