2002 Explorer XLT
First off hello everybody I'm new be gentle. I just purchased my 02 explorer xlt 4 days ago and before we brought it home the dealer cleared the check engine light which supposedly was do to a bad O2 sensor. The drive home was fantastic and then the nest day the truck stalled out while coming to a stop light no big deal threw it in nuetral and kept going without any other problems another day goes by and today while my girl was driving I noticed that the tach was dipping a bit from a grand to about 500rpm to 400rpm. So my question is is the ECM still trying to learn from the new O2 sensor and doesnt think its getting enough air or is it the IAC or even the tranny just because ive read a bunch of threads trying to figure it out and no I have more questions than when i started please help.sorry for the long post and thanx for your time.

well thank you its nice to know a bunch of people with the same interest. By any chance would you have any answers to my question? or could you direct me towards someone that knows alot about the 4liter motor and trans?

oh where did I post it orginaly crap thats probably why no one was helping me huh? Thanx man you know he didnt say but im going back for him to handle the situation with the stalling i was hoping to know more so dude doesnt try and take me and the old lady for a ride know what I mean? ill find out but like I said it was supposedly it was the O2 sensor and I had found one in the glove box when we took it for A ride so just figured who ever was trying to fix it bought the wrong sensor because i noticed it was the one that goes into the intake so ill find out thursday and post it so I dont get boned by guy. I really hate dealers man there worst than drug dealers in a school yard.

Thanx Again Brooklyn just to think someone from NY helping some Masshole wow whats next world peace......lol

Have them flash the PCM. Had same issue with my early production 03. RPM will come up a bit.

what exactly do you mean by flash it?Is that kinda like a soft restart kinda thing? Just because i was wondering if I could do something to the same effect by taking the ground of the battery and leaving it off for like ten minutes so that the ECM would just see the new sensor and that would solve that issue if its even the problem. Either way thanks for the tip though I will deffinetly have them do it,but will that do anything if Im not showing a check engine light because when it stalled the light didn't come on and hasn't since they put in the new sensor and I have driven at least 100 miles, and wouldn't my check engine light come on if the sensor was causing the problem just because im taking it in tomorrow morning and there gonna see no check engine and probably tell me they can't do anything.Sorry im just rambling as I type now i dunno any Ideas anybody i boggled by the whole thing and it has only stalled the once i just wanna make sure i take care of anything it might be before it becomes a serious problem and I end up having to replace the tranny or something because no light came on

Sounds like it could be a problem With the IAC (idle air control) valve.

yeah you think? Does the IAC not report a code when its dirty? I ask that because I read a thread showing how to clean it and that didnt look to difficult so do you know if it reports or not?

From what i know. the iac will only throw a code if it is a electrical fault. The IAC gets dirty over time with carbon. Its a possibility that it is what is wrong. 10 minutes worth of wor
and you will know.

Flash PCM is done at dealership. They download new/updated data into PCM. It'll change idle speed etc. Mines didn't throw a code, vehicle just died when I let up on throttle when moving in a parking lot. My RPM was low and vehicle stalled. After the PCM flash idle speed was higher and haven't had stalling problems since.

sweet thanx everyone for the help I appreciate it!!
