So I installed my powertrax no-slip today. install went very smootha dn I have double checked everything to make sure it was all right. No problem there. My concern is that when I first turned it made a clunking noise and I still get that now when I am turing sometimes? is that normal?

Thanks.

A clunk is normal when starting to turn or applying power during turning. It's the Powertrax releasing. If you did the recommended "driving in circles" and it didn't bind up, you're probably fine. Mine clunks on occasion and I chirp the tires on corners if I forget to get the turn started before I apply power.

It's gonna do that for a while. It just needs to break in. Do you still have the mono-leaf? After I installed mine it was really really bad for the few days. But after about 300 miles it will settle down.

Thanks Guys!

I will try the turning in cirlces, but what am I looking for I haven't heard of that?

I did some more reading on here last night and found alot of people saying it needs to break in but alot of people claim theirs was quick so I was a little nervous obout my install. I will give it a few miles and see how it goes.

Are there any recomended breakin habits?

Jason - are you still having problems with yours?

Hopefully it works out great for you. I love my power trak, i'm sure you will too. Mine has never made a noise since day one. I guess i just got lucky. Should work out great though!

Happy trails!!

Well STILL there is too much backlash, but not near what it used to be. I had the U-joints replaced, and a drive shaft yoke, and I switched to the 4 door spring pack. It still makes noises sometimes but it doesn't bother me, but like I said it was REALLY bad for the first few miles.

I wonder if a traction bar would take care of that?

Probably, but I don't want anything to decrease the suspension flex. I'll just live with until I can afford a full carrier replacement.

If you cared enough about it I bet you could make traction bars that wouldn't mess up flex.

There is also a product out there and I forget the name or website, but it helps with axle wrap and it provides towing support like hte add a leaf, but it doesn't effect ride harshness like the add a leaf. It is a coil sprint the mounts to both ends of the springs, it is pretty cool. I saw it around here somewhere...

Jason - just curious what did you ever decide on for lift?

The Weldtec 3" kit. Good travel and it keeps the parts close to stock so when I break 'em I won;t have to pay a fortune. I'll do a spring over in the rear but I'll need some shorter shackles it looks like.

Yeah I am trying to engineer the SOA right now to do it in a couple of weeks.

The noises went away as my combination of it breaking in and learning how to drive with it. all is well now. thanks guys
