I read/ skimmed the Project Frankentranny write up and it seems it was a great resource but i was not able to get the pictures to work. I also found it might take me quite some time "days" to sift through it to get the basic parts needed and modifications in a simple list form. I was hoping maybe, just maybe, I might get lucky and someone else may already have a basic list with the final recipe.I would like to build my own.

My trans is ready to grenade any day now and I would like to build a fresh one to handle the eventual 4-450 hp from a 5.0l. If the eventual 5.0l could not be a realistic power source for a frankentranny than i would just rebuild/ patch the stock unit and swap in another trans when i swap in the 5.0l

I know the 700r4 quite well but would prefer to stick to ford parts.

Thanks for any help

The 'frankentranny' is a A4LD/4R transmission, those have the 4.0L Bellhousing Bolt pattern on them. The 5.0L does not bolt up to it.

I am swapping motors right now, to a 5.0L. I MAINLY did it for a more reliable transmission. In Stock Form, the 4R70W that is in the 5.0L Explorers are VERY stout...without doing anything more than a Valvebody, and a Higher Stall converter (read: NOT tearing the thing open) that transmission will easily support your dreams of a 400-450hp motor.

ok I figured instead of a new post I would drop this question on this "related" post.

When I bought the exploder a short while ago i had a transmission failure at around 130KMH not miles per hour. The transmission puked fluid out the front shaft/seal and all over my exhaust. Weeee

I just replaced the fluid and wala, it stayed. Then I figured it was done and i was going to take it out trail bashing. So i pounded the truck a little and funny enough it puked again. lol

So i replaced the fluid and was gentle with it and its been fine..... until yesterday it puked again. I was going around 130 again.

So why is it puking ? and why at higher speeds?

Oh all of these questions are based on a normal transmission with 170000kM
I know it could be a pile and this may not be normal activity but is this a common leak or puke area?

I have planned to replace the entire drivetrain but i was hoping to keep this alive for a bit longer before replacing it.

Ps I know quite a bit about transmissions, but I dont know the problems or habits of this transmission.

Thanks again

Front Seal...where the Torque Convertor goes into the case, there is a rubber/neoprene type seal (looks like a wheel bearing seal) that has a seemingly high failure rate..
