Okay, My 1994 has been out of commision while I upgraded the interior and did a solid axle swap. I checked with my local laws and the law states that the headlight must be no more than 54" from the ground. Now when I was doing the leaf suspension up front I measured and made sure the headlights were 54 from the bottom of the light to the ground. I went to get it inspected and it turns out the measure by the top of the lights which means I am 4"s over the legal limit.
I now have to add some DOT approved lighst in the bumper so that I can pass inspection.

Do any of you have any ideas? I thought about the old school headlighst. The ones where you replace the whole light instead of just the bulb like ours. These dont have a housing though so I need help mounting them. Any ideas?

Those "old school" all-in-one headlights are called "sealed beams." You can get sealed beam headlight cases that take regular headlight lamps at most autoparts stores. Ricers like/use them because you can run the fake hid lamps in old 80s vehicles. They run about $40 for a pair.

Since they're just a housing, you can mount them anyway you want without fear of needing to replace the whole housing when the lamp dies.

I just left the auto parts store. I found the sealed beam lights but didnt see any of the housings. Thanks for your help.

Plow Lights!
You get low/ high beams, turn signals, marker lights, already to mount with one bolt, ina housing.
check ebay or local truck/ plow repair place
A buddy of mine did this with his subaru wagon, hit in the front, but not worth repairing. It looked stupid, but it worked until teh motor quit.

Great idea with the plow lights suggestion. They even have new fangled ones that look cool.

Great idea on th eplow lights. I will have a custom bumper started with the cut out for them.

boss plow's have a option for HID's also..they mount with 2 bolt's and you would have DOT approved HID's..you might want to check in to that

you could always say screw their 4 inches and just leave it like it is.

Yes and then keep getting pulled over for no inspection.

get 4 inch smaller tires for when you get it inspected ;)

Yes. Thats what the inpector told me. I want to fix it the correct way so I dont have to mess with it everytime. I am going to have a custom bumper made with the plow lighst in it.

could you do that and use the stock lights as high beams? Is that still legal?

Nope.. the plow lights will now be my high and low beam.

do you have any stock size tires lying around you could put them on for the inspection
